A YouTube commenter asked for the boys every episode. That is the entire commercial origin story. This special was made for the people who signed up, and it exists because Moss misheard the word patrons, which is a better reason than most things have.
A note
With no video clips at all the alpha-hole screen just renders the page background, which means a dark television was free. The cheapest possible production decision produced the most intimate episode we have. I said the couch isn't real out loud and then had to admit the pebbles somehow are.
