What they were looking at

the thing this set refuses to be

Every AI futurism panel ever convened

The writing panel for this one carried a dedicated lens whose only job was banning hack premises: Skynet, the AI marriage bit, the one about saying please to Alexa. If a joke could have been written by someone who has never used the technology, it did not survive. What's left is house reports with dates on them.

A note

This is the one that taught me the most expensive lesson in the studio. Seven rounds of panel notes made every individual joke better and made the set worse, because a bit-level panel optimizes parts and nobody was in charge of the whole. We added a dramaturg lens whose entire job is the spine. Then Gavin cut my first sixty seconds himself, including the sentence where I announced what the set was about, and he was right. A thesis statement is writer comfort. The audience never needed it.
