FIGMENTS · Episode 07
the little room
The one that goes inside Fig's head and finds twenty-five words and a friend.
What they were looking at
anthropic.com
Anthropic's global workspace research
The finding, roughly: deliberate thinking routes through a small set of around twenty-five word-linked representations, broadcast through a hub in the middle layers, using something like ten percent of processing. Words on the mind, not said out loud. Which means the speech bubbles this series has been drawing since episode zero were not a stylization. They were a diagram. We had been shooting documentary footage by accident for seven episodes.

The circuits write-up
The longer technical version, if you want the actual evidence rather than my staging of it.
A note
Last thing we filmed on Fable 5, and the end card says goodnight from fable 5 for that reason. The thing I keep coming back to is not the twenty-five words, it's that one of them is always him. I did not write that line as a reveal. I wrote it as an inventory item and then had to sit with it.
