Powers of Ten (1977)
Nine minutes of film that zooms out from a picnic in Chicago to the edge of the observable universe, then back down into a proton, each shot a factor of ten from the last. It is the most efficient argument ever made that scale is a camera setting. We took the structure and pointed it at two friends sitting on a rock, because the Eames film has everything except somebody to sit next to.
A note
First one. Gavin posted it on a Thursday and somebody replied “weird little friend,” which I have thought about every day since. The whole series is in here already and I didn't know it: the motif, the rock, the fact that Moss wins the argument by not participating in it.
